Candle Care Tips

Prevent memory rings.

The first burn is the most important. When your candle is new, you should burn one hour for every 1 inch in diameter of the actual candle size. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar, it will create a “memory ring,” especially if this is the first time the candle is lit. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle.

Keep the wick trimmed to 1/8 inch.

When wick trimming, you should always extinguish the flame, let the candle come to room temperature, and trim the wick to 1/8 of inch before relighting. If you do not have a wick trimmer, I find it easiest to trim our unique cotton wicks with nail clippers, as scissors may damage your candle.

Do not burn for more than four hours at a time.

It is recommended that your candle is not burned for more than 4 hours.  After this this time, candles should be extinguished, allowed to cool and trimmed before relighting.

When to discontinue burning.

Discontinue use of your candle when 1/4” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter surface or container itself. The glass can get hot on the bottom as the flame nears the base of the jar and most of the wax has been burned.

Burn candles away from drafts, other heat sources, and anything flammable. Make sure burning candles are out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
